Installation

From download to a working queue.

Run the container or a native build, create the administrator, and connect a capture surface.

Installer, Homebrew, Scoop, winget, apt or dnf? The downloads and commands are on the download page →

01 — Container

One compose file on the NAS.

services:
  rdownloader:
    image: ghcr.io/degoya/rdownloader:v1.42.0
    environment:
      - PUID=1000
      - PGID=1000
    volumes:
      - ./config:/config
      - /mnt/downloads:/downloads
    ports:
      - "127.0.0.1:8710:8710"
    restart: unless-stopped

Bundled at pinned versions

ffmpeg, yt-dlp, streamlink, gallery-dl, 7-Zip with its RAR codec, par2 and Apprise ship inside the image.

Deliberately absent

unrar is not included: 7-Zip unpacks RAR and RAR5 with Debian's RAR codec, extract only. rclone is supplied by the operator.

Pinned version or latest

:v1.42.0 stays until you change it; :latest follows every release. An update migrates the database forward only, so take a backup first.

No capture agent

Capture through the PWA, the browser extension or a desktop agent on another machine.

02 — First run

Five steps to a working queue.

  1. Start and open

Run the binary or the container, then open http://127.0.0.1:8710.

  2. Create the administrator

Register a passkey, or set a password and add an authenticator code.

  3. Allowlist storage roots

Name the directories downloads may reach, then add categories with relative paths.

  4. Connect a capture surface

The setup wizard pairs the browser extension. Or install the capture agent or the PWA, or issue a scoped token for CLI, REST or MCP.

  5. Choose services

The wizard installs only the plugins you pick, such as hosters, debrid services, torrents and cloud drives, then asks for their sign-ins.

Check the build

Each Windows and Linux package carries a VERSION.txt with version, commit and build time; Settings → About rDownloader shows the same build.

Updates

The service checks for signed updates and installs the archive and MSI in one click, with rollback. For package managers and Docker it shows the command.

REQ

The server binds exclusively to 127.0.0.1 by default. Reaching it from another device is a deliberate configuration step through a TLS reverse proxy — not a default.

03 — Browser extension

Add the browser extension.

Browser extension

Chromium browsers and Firefox

Context actions, download interception, captchas and Click'n'Load where no desktop agent answers, for the sites you allow — DE / EN / FR / ES. Chrome installs the extension from the Chrome Web Store, Edge from Edge Add-ons, Firefox from Firefox Add-ons; updates arrive automatically. Guide in the wiki
